نبذة عن المؤلف
سلمى جميل حداد أستاذة جامعية سورية حصلت على درجة الدكتوراه في الترجمة من جامعة هيريوت وات في اسكتلندة، وهي تنظم الشعر باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية وتكتب الرواية بالعربية وتقوم بوضع المعاجم الثقافية العربية والإنجليزية إيمانا منها بالعلاقة الوثيقة بين اللغة وحاضنتها الثقافية. صدر لها خمسة دواوين بالعربية والإنجليزية كان آخرها "الرَّجُل ذلك المخلوق المُشفَّر" عن دار البشائر بدمشق. Salma Jamil Haddad obtained her MSc. degree (1992) and PhD degree (1996) in Translation from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. She is currently Professor of Translation at Damascus University, Faculty of Literature and Human Sciences, Department of English, Damascus, where she teaches English/Arabic Translation, Translation Theory, and Linguistic Studies. In addition to her main interest in the fields of translation, translation theory, and the relation between language, society and culture (See Scientific Activities/Published Articles and Published Books for more details), Professor Haddad is also interested in Socio-linguistics, Semiotics, Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Modern Arabic Poetry, Modern English Poetry, Arabic Novel, Woman & Society, Cultural Studies, and Arabic Rhetoric. She also writes English and Arabic poetry and already published five poetry books (See Literary Activities/Published Poetry Books for more details), and currently writing her first Arabic novel which will be published by the end of 2012 (See Literary Activities/Forthcoming Novels for more details). Professor Haddad is also interested in the field of dictionaries. She believes that dictionaries should give, in addition to the dictionary denotative meaning of the words, the cultural connotative meaning that plays different roles in different languages and cultures. She reflects this cultural vision in three Arabic-Arabic and Arabic-English dictionaries the first of which will see the light by the end of 2012 (See Scientific Activities/Forthcoming Dictionaries for more details).
